2019 Courses in Cornwall

We now offer some retreats in Cornwall during the Winter/Spring months. This new entity is called Proper Crafty and will follow the same format as Crafty Retreats. Why not come along and join us to beat the Winter blues away on an incredibly enjoyable, fully inclusive craft course on the banks of the River Tamar? There will only be up to 10 like-minded participants during each week - so there is time for plenty of individual tuition.

We offer excellent studio facilities including sewing machines, experienced tutors, individual bedrooms with your own bathroom, free airport or train transfers, an outing day related to your course and delicious West Country cuisine. Non-participating partners will have free fishing included in their stay, breakfast included and can join the group to eat in the evening on request. The converted barns you will staying in all come with a lounge, full kitchen and are absolutely beautiful.

We have arranged the tutors for 2019 and the course outlines are below. Full course details will not be available for a while yet, but if you know you want to come on a course please contact us via the form at the bottom of the page, stating the name of the tutor, to organise reserving your place. Visit www.propercrafty.com for more information.

Anne Brooke - FULL
From Doodle to Stitch Collage!

February 17th to 24th 2019

Anne’s work is inspired by taking that first step on a walk and discovering nature’s treasures. During the week we will visit the Cornish Coast and Bodmin Moor as inspiration for your stitched collages. We will explore drawing and recording to inform your work back in the studio. Under Anne’s guidance you will begin to translate your recordings into collage and then return to drawing using a sewing machine and needle. Some of the skills gained will include observational drawing, paper collage, creating your own stamps, printing on to fabric, dyeing your own threads, free machine embroidery and hand embroidery techniques to create your own stitched collage that will be a record of your journey on this residential.
