Jackie makes beautiful felt on which she then adds other layers of felt, silk and velvet. Next she free motion stitches with the machine and hand embroiders to finish embellishing the piece. Her inspiration comes from nature, both vast and minute. During the week we create wall hangings and art pieces using wet felting as the base and free motion stitching on top, finally enhancing the pieces using hand embroidery. Wet felting can be hard work but this course is more gentle!

An illumination is an embellishment or additional decoration that enhances the pages of a written, or manuscript page. The term “Illumination” comes from the term “Illuminate”, or to fill with light. During this course we will interpret this subject by layering and manipulating various fabrics and non-textile materials. You will be exploring the built-in stitches of your sewing machine as well as free machine embroidery to integrate all the layers. During this week we will be working with transfoils, soluables, painted bondaweb, Angelina fibres, Kunin felt and the heatgun. With these ingredients you will finally produce a very lavish, luxurious and unique book cover.
