Printing and Pinnies! with Alison Hulme

September 20th to September 27th 2018

Love printing? If you do then this is the course for you! During the week will develop new fabric design and printing skills, or improve those you already have, using Gellie plates, thermofax screens, tray dying, breakdown printing, stencils and stamps. The many possibilities of using these techniques, either alone or together, will be explored on fabric which will become wonderful cloths to stitch into and make pinnies, bags, wall hangings or other items for the home. Alison will demonstrate and teach lots of different ways to help you become a more confident and creative textile print artist.

Day 1 Arrive today. Meet and greet supper with wine to get your creative juices flowing! Alison will introduce herself and give a talk about her work and background.

Day 2 SCREEN PRINTING & TRAY DYING
We will start the day learning the techniques for screen printing. Learning how to “register” a print, you will then have the rest of the day to start creating your own work. Alison will be there to help and encourage you in creating your own masterpieces!

Today Alison will also teach you how to prepare and tray dye fabric.

Day 3 GELLIE PLATE PRINTING
Today Aliosn will introduce you to “gellie” plates, creating new pieces of work, backgrounds etc which will be enhanced later in the week.

Day 4 VIDE GRENIERS, STENCILS & STAMPS
This morning we will visit a local vide grenier and market to search for fabulous French fabrics and other vintage finds! In the afternoon you will learn how to get the best out of stencils and stamps.

Day 5 BREAKDOWN PRINTING

Today we will prepare fabric for use on Day 7 and Alison will teach you how to print using the breakdown print technique.

Day 6 is an outing day. The studio will be open on your return to continue working on your fabrics.

Day 7 BAG OR PINNIE MAKING

Today you will make your printed fabrics into a pinnie or bag or even home furnishing items such as cushion covers or table runners. Having printed so much fabric during the week the faster you sew the more items you will be able to make!

Day 8 Today we will say our goodbyes and 'tie up any loose ends'. Most flights are later in the afternoon so the studio will be open for you to use all morning followed by lunch before you leave.
